Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of vertebral compression fracturesin the spinal column, usually due to osteoporosis or cancer.

The radiologist inserts a balloon into the fractured bone through a hollow needle to create a cavity or space and then injects special “cement” into the cavity once the balloon is removed.
